First Hawaiian debit card has 'Tap N Go' technology

Advertiser Staff

First Hawaiian Bank said it has begun issuing debit cards with an embedded computer chip that allows customers to "Tap N Go" when making purchases.

The bank's Priority Rewards card contains a MasterCard PayPass chip that reduces transaction times at stores. Instead of sliding cards through a reader, people can tap their debit cards on a special terminal and the amount is automatically deducted from a checking account. Transactions under $25 don't require a signature to complete.

First Hawaiian said it is the first local institution to issue the debit cards with the chip.
