Strong quake jolts Alaska, but no tsunami expected here

A moderately strong earthquake shook the Alaska Peninsula about 8 a.m. this morning.

The quake was assigned a preliminary magnitude of 6.6.

Based on historical earthquake and tsunami data, it does not appear that a widespread destructive tsunami was generated by the earthquake, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in 'Ewa Beach.
