Honolulu events planned for Fire Prevention Week

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Fire Department will be observing "Fire Prevention Week" for seven days beginning Sunday. The theme this year is "practice your (fire) escape plan."

To help families develop and practice a fire escape plan, the HFD distributes a Fire Fighter's Safety Guide annually to every elementary school student in the state, but residents can learn more about fire escape planning and all forms of fire prevention by visiting the National Fire Protection Association's Fire Prevention Week website at: www.firepreventionweek.org

HFD has special Fire Prevention Week appearances scheduled Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Windward Mall and at the Children and Youth Day Festival at the State Capitol from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. HFD will also be appearing at Ala Moana Center on Oct. 13 from noon to 1 p.m.

Fire Prevention Week promotions will be held Oct. 10 at Lunalilo Elementary School, 9 a.m.; Oct. 11 at 'Aikahi Elementary School, 9:15 a.m., and Oct. 12 at Alvah Scott Elementary School, 10 a.m.
