Oahu, Maui schools to get $25 million for repairs

The governor has released $25 million for school repair-and-maintenance projects at 84 public schools on O'ahu and Maui.

The projects include re-roofing, structural repairs, replacing air-conditioning and existing utility systems, fire alarm upgrades and resurfacing.

Some $21 million will be used for O'ahu schools and $4 million is slated for Maui campuses.

The projects are scheduled to be completed by June 2009.

According to a list provided by the governor's office, the projects include:

O'ahu

Re-roofing is scheduled for 'Aiea, Radford, Wai'anae, Farrington, Moanalua and Castle High schools; Moanalua and Wai'anae Intermediate schools; and Mokulele, Hickam, Alvah A. Scott, Pearl Harbor, Pearl Harbor Kai, Salt Lake, Shafter, Waimalu, 'Ewa Beach, Leihoku, Makaha, Mauka Lani, Pohakea, Ka'a'awa, 'Aina Haina, Haha'ione, and Kalihi Waena Elementary schools.

Fire alarm upgrades are scheduled for 'Aiea Intermediate and Kalakaua Middle schools, and Moanalua, Webling, and Ben Parker Elementary schools.

Bell repairs will be made at Kaiser High, as well as Mokulele, Pearl Ridge, Barbers Point, 'Ewa, Ben Parker, Puohala, and Haha'ione Elementary schools.

Air-conditioning repairs are planned for Campbell, Castle and Farrington High schools; 'Ilima Intermediate; and Makalapa, Pearl Ridge, and Mauka Lani Elementary schools.

Drainage and irrigation improvements are planned for Kahuku High and Intermediate School; 'Aiea Intermediate; and Red Hill, He'eia, and Makaha Elementary schools.

Electrical upgrades will be made at 'Aiea and Kaiser High schools; 'Ilima, Moanalua, and Wai'anae Intermediate; and Makalapa, Moanalua, Nimitz, and Waimalu Elementary schools.

Walkways will be repaired or installed at 'Aiea High; Aliamanu and Moanalua Intermediate schools; and Kaewai, Kaimiloa, and Waiahole Elementary schools.

Maui

Re-roofing is scheduled for 'Iao Middle School and Lokelani Intermediate and Haiku, Kahului, Kihei, and Lihikai Elementary schools.

Fire alarm upgrades are planned for Pu'unene School and Waihe'e and Pukalani Elementary schools.

Door and window replacements are planned for Baldwin and Maui High schools, as well as Haiku and Kahului Elementary schools. Electrical upgrades are planned for Kalama Intermediate and Makawao Elementary.

Restrooms will be renovated at Kihei and Kula Elementary schools, and new sewer lines will be installed at Maui High.

Irrigation systems will be repaired at Kalama and Maui Waena Intermediate schools. Haiku Elementary will receive new water fountains, Wailuku Elementary will receive a new water meter, and new piping will be installed at Pa'ia Elementary.

The various repair and maintenance projects are scheduled to be completed by June 2009.
