NBA: Knicks waive Dickau after reaching buyout

Associated Press

NEW YORK — The New York Knicks waived Dan Dickau today after completing a buyout of the veteran point guard's contract.

The Knicks acquired Dickau in the draft-night trade that also sent Zach Randolph and Fred Jones from Portland to New York. But with the Knicks already having a number of guard options, agent Mark Bartelstein said the team wasn't a great situation for his client.

"We very much appreciate Isiah Thomas and Glen Grunwald working with us to get this done at the beginning of training camp," Bartelstein said.

Bartelstein said a couple of teams are possibilities for Dickau, who averaged 3.3 points and 1.4 assists in 50 games for the Trail Blazers last season. The former Gonzaga star has averaged six points and 2.5 assists in 233 career games with six NBA teams.

The Knicks opened training camp today in Charleston, S.C.
