Kapolei board to consider landfill extension tonight

Advertiser Staff

The Makakilo/Kapolei/Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board will hold a public hearing tonight on Mayor Mufi Hannemann's plans to extend the life of the Waimanalo Gulch Landfill.

The public will be able to testify for up to one minute per person at the hearing, set for 7 p.m. at the Kapolei High School cafeteria.

Board members are then expected to vote on whether to support the plan to extend the landfill's life until May 2010.

The recommendation of the board will be forwarded to the city Planning Commission, which will make its recommendation to the state Land Use Commission, the ultimate decision-maker.
