Kamae documentary to show in Waikiki Oct. 21

Advertiser Staff

Eddie and Myrna Kamae will show their latest film, "Lahaina: Waves of Change," at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki as part of the 27th Annual Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival, which officially gets under way Oct.18.

Kamae's musical group, the Sons of Hawaii, will give a rare performance at the screening.

Kamae, a prolific compose and entertainer, has evolved into a seasoned documentary film director. His wife, Myrna, produced their latest project with Dennis Mahaffay and Lisa Altieri Sosa.

The film explores Lahaina's history as a sacred Hawaiian place and examines the changes over the years; despite the altered complexion, the film contends that the seaport sector on Maui remains sacred because of what's in the hearts of the people who live there.

Kaupena Wong is narrator; the script was written by Robert Pennybacker and Steve Okino.

Admission is free.
