State to focus on fire safety, disability in workplace
Advertiser Staff
Several state and fire department officials will be on hand today from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the executive chambers of the Hawai'i State Capitol to discuss raising the awareness about the need for families to practice home escape plans. The weeklong awareness effort is aimed at reducing the dangers Hawai'i residents face from fires. On O'ahu last year, fires accounted for more than $21 million in losses. Also, the state is heightening awareness of the need for employers to help provide more opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Last year, Hawai'i saw a slight decrease in efforts by businesses to integrate workers with disabilities into their workplaces, despite a perennially tight labor market.
