Sure, Disney's "The Lion King" musical is still roaring majestically at the Blaisdell Concert Hall, but don't forget about Honolulu's always lively community-theater scene. This is the final weekend for:

  • "The Little Mermaid," based on the original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen and presented by the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. It stars Herman Tesoro Jr. and Mary Wells as narrators Jetsam and Flotsam; they also take on all the roles in the story. Showtimes are 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. today at Tenney Theatre, St. Andrew's Cathedral. Tickets are $16 general, $8 for those 18 and younger or over 60. Recommended for 4 and older. 839-9885, www.htyweb.org.

  • "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," a more adult-themed production, of course, about the demise of a pleasure palace. Anita Hall, left, stars. Showtimes are 3 and 8 p.m. today, 4 p.m. tomorrow at Diamond Head Theatre. Tickets are $12-$42, with discounts for students, those 62 and older, military and Texas natives with ID. 733-0277, www.diamondheadtheatre.com.
