Warriors' Ellis hospitalized after suffering neck injury

Advertiser News Services

Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis suffered what appeared to be a serious injury during last night's contact practice at Brigham Young-Hawai'i.

Ellis was in a collision while trying to split a double team from Marco Belinelli and Austin Croshere. Warrior Brandan Wright said through a team spokesman that Ellis hit his head on Wright's hip before turning and falling to the ground.

He lay on the floor for more than half an hour before paramedics arrived on the scene. Ellis was fitted with a cervical collar and taken by ambulance to Castle Hospital in Kailua, approximately 30 minutes away.

At the Los Angeles Lakers camp at 'Iolani School gym, Luke Walton and Derek Fisher sustained minor injuries.

Walton strained his right hamstring and is listed as day-to-day. Derek Fisher received a deep, 1-inch gash to the forehead when he took an elbow from center Larry Turner.

Kobe Bryant didn't participate in the final minutes of practice as he iced his left knee.

The Warriors and Lakers play exhibition games Tuesday and Thursday at the University of Hawai'i's Stan Sheriff Center.
