Fire causes $125,000 damage to Big Island home

A Big Island fire today badly damaged a single-story wooden home at 14-822 Kapuna Road, Pahoa.

Pahoa Fire Capt. John Kihara said the 2:11 p.m. fire caused an estimated $125,000 in damage. Responding firefighters found about 50 percent of the residence burning. The fire, which was limited to a rear bedroom area, was reported under control at 2:30 p.m.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross assisted a family of five who were displaced by the fire.
