Ako helps Rainbows to 1-1 soccer tie with Pepperdine

Ambree Ako scored in the 79th minute to lift Hawai'i to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Pepperdine today in a non-conference soccer match at Malibu, Calif.

UH is 7-3-2. Pepperdine is 2-4-5.

The Rainbow Wahine snapped a seven-match road losing streak dating back to last year, including three this year.

Amanda Rupp scored in the 44th minute for Pepperdine.

UH's Nicole Mikula sent a cross from the left flank to Ako, who scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Pepperdine had a 14-6 shot advantage, with UH goalkeeper Kori Lu finishing with eight saves.

Hawai'i opens Western Athletic Conference action at home against Nevada Friday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
