NFL: Brown's five field goals lift Texans past Dolphins

Associated Press

HOUSTON - Kris Brown's career day was enough for the Houston Texans to slip past the hapless Miami Dolphins.

Brown kicked five field goals, including the winner on a career-long 57-yarder with a second remaining, to lead the Texans to a 22-19 victory over the Dolphins (0-5), losers of eight straight.

Brown tied an NFL single-game record with three makes over 50 yards. He hit two 54-yarders earlier in the game.

The Texans (3-2) got the ball at their 3-yard line and Matt Schaub completed 4 of 5 passes to set up the winning kick.

With less than two minutes to go, the Dolphins lined up for what would have been a 56-yard field goal attempt, but instead called a timeout and punted.

Schaub fumbled and threw an interception, and the Texans couldn't finish drives all day, instead relying on Brown's leg. He also hit from 43 and 20 yards.

Brown helped the Texans break a two-game losing streak and avoid being beaten by a second straight winless opponent, after last week's loss to Atlanta. The victory gives Houston its first winning record after five games in franchise history.
