ALOHA 'AINA EARTH DAY — The 32nd Recycling Community Cleanup Project accepts bulky items and recyclables for disposal, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 13 at Kaimuki High School. Accepting scrap metal, auto parts, lawn mowers, newspapers, cardboard, HI-5 containers, fishing nets and more. For bulky-item curbside pickup, call Steve Uyeno at 527-5587 or Rene Mansho at 306-1876. Proceeds will benefit Kaimuki High School, the Mo'ili'ili Community Center and the Kapahulu Center.

MANOA WORK TRIP — Remove strawberry guava and other weeds from Manoa Cliffs Trail, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 13. Bring long pants, sturdy shoes, raingear, water, lunch, hat, bug repellent, sunscreen. POUHALA MARSH RESTORATION — The Hawai'i Nature Center is restoring Pouhala Marsh in Waipahu. Volunteers are needed to pull pickleweed and mangrove 8:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 27. Bring work gloves, water, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes; covered footwear and long pants required. Contact Pauline Kawamata at 955-0100, ext. 18.

KANE'OHE WETLAND PROJECT — Volunteers needed Oct. 13 to help the Sierra Club clear a wetland of mangrove to create habitat for endangered water birds at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i. NATURE CENTER WORKDAYS — Hawai'i Nature Center weekly volunteer workdays are held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays at a new location, 2131 Makiki Heights Drive; call 988-8995. Tasks include power-washing trailers, painting, planting.

ARBORETUM WORK PARTY — Lyon Arboretum in Manoa holds a volunteer work party at 8 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. Meet in parking lot, prepared for rain and sun; closed-toe shoes, bug repellent, hat, gloves recommended.

PINE TREE PULLERS — Help remove invasive pines near Maui's Hosmer Grove, 9 a.m.-noon Sundays. Transportation provided at 7:30 a.m. from Harbor Shops, Ma'alaea, and 8:15 a.m. from Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center, Pukalani. Closed footwear required; bring water and lunch. KOKUA HALEAKALA — Haleakala National Park needs volunteers for trail maintenance, visitor assistance, weed control, cultural demonstrations, library work and clerical help.
