How Hawai'i Reps. Neil Abercrombie and Mazie K. Hirono and Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel K. Inouye voted in key legislation last week.

    KEY HOUSE VOTES

    1. Accountability for military contractors

The House voted 389-30 Thursday to require greater oversight of military contractors in Iraq. The bill would be incorporated into the defense spending bill and bring private contractors under military jurisdiction. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.

    2. Regional Infrastructure Act

By a 264-154 vote, the House passed a regional development bill Thursday to provide $1.25 billion through 2012 for economically depressed parts of the country. The bill would establish five regional commissions nationwide to administer the funds for job training as well as infrastructure and tourism development. The White House has threatened to veto the bill, saying it duplicates existing programs.

    WHAT'S AHEAD

The House will take up lowincome housing legislation that would establish a trust fund of $1 billion a year over a decade for state and local governments to create affordable housing. The House also will take up a bill to repeal a 3-year-old program that allows the IRS to contract out debt collection and a bill aimed at improving railroad safety.
