Water cutoff closes 3 Big Island schools today

Advertiser Staff

The three public schools in the Kohala area of the Big Island will be closed today because of an ongoing water shortage.

The county said that Kohala elementary, intermediate and high schools will be closed while crews repair a pump that serves the North Kohala area.

Repairs are expected to be completed by Tuesday morning. The county Department of Water Supply did not have an estimate today on how many people are affected by the water cutoff, but the malfunctioning pump provides water to most of that area.
