State agencies remain open for Discoverers Day

Advertiser Staff

Today is Discoverers Day (Columbus Day on the Mainland). In Hawai'i, it is observed as a federal holiday, but is no longer a state or county holiday.

With a few exceptions, it will be a regular Monday for city and state services, including rubbish pickup and landfill operations, bus service, street parking and open markets.

Most tourist attractions will be open. Some museums will be closed as they normally are on Mondays.

  • Government: Federal offices closed; city and state offices open.

  • Mail: Post offices closed; no regular business or residential delivery; no pickup from blue collection boxes; Express Mail delivered to Honolulu addresses only.

  • Financial institutions: Most banks, savings and loans, and credit unions closed.
