Fire prevention week brings tips for Hawaii families

Advertiser Staff

Looking to raise awareness to the importance of creating escape plans at home, the Honolulu Fire Department, National Fire Protection Association and other safety advocates are stressing "Practice Your Escape Plan!" as part of Fire Prevention Week, which lasts through Saturday.

As part of fire prevention week, HFD distributes a Fire Fighter's Safety Guide annually to every elementary school student in the state, reaching more than 150,000 students annually for the past 21 years. This children's workbook is filled with important fire safety messages and includes an exercise where children are asked to involve their families in making and practicing a fire escape plan.
