Woolford looks at Hawaiian identity through dance

Advertiser Staff

Keo Woolford taps his Island roots and his international performing credentials to star in "I-land," a semi-autobiographical story and dance event that examines his Hawaiian identity, playing at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at Leeward Community College Theatre.

Woolford recounts his awkward transition from cocky disco-dancing kid to disciplined member of Robert Cazimero's Halau Na Kamalei, to membership in the boy band Brownskin.

Woolford has performed in New York and Los Angeles and played the King in the London West End production of "The King and I."

"I-land" is a creative venture with director Roberta Uno; Cazimero, who created the hula choreography; and b-girl Rokafella, who choreographed the hip-hop.

Tickets: $23 adults, $19 students, seniors and military.
