A 41-year-old Kalihi woman was stabbed to death early this morning and the man suspected of killing her is also dead after an apparent suicide, officials said.

The stabbing at 1506 Kaumualii Park apartments on Kaumualii Street was reported to police at 2:08 a.m. The woman, who worked at the Black Stallion in Kalihi, was an acquaintance of the 42-year-old suspect, a Salt Lake man who frequented the bar, police said.

According to police the man had gone to the woman's home to visit the victim and her sister. Police are investigating what happened next, but the man allegedly stabbed the woman at least six times while they were in the street before he fled in a white 2004 Toyota Tacoma.

The woman was transported by Honolulu Emergency Services to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and was later declared dead at the hospital, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services department.

The identities of the man and woman have yet to be released.

After leaving the scene at the apartment complex, police said the man reportedly called his sister and told her he had just killed someone. She then reported the incident to police, who issued an "All Points Bulletin" about the suspect's truck.

At about 2:40 a.m., police received multiple reports from witnesses at the intersection of Ala Lilikoi Street and Salt Lake Boulevard in Salt Lake who said they heard or saw a white truck crash into a concrete wall.

Police said witnesses told them the suspect had backed up at the intersection, sped up and drove head first into the wall.

The suspect was found dead in the truck, officials said.
