Baseball: Red Sox move up Schilling in rotation

Associated Press

BOSTON -- Curt Schilling will pitch for Boston in the second game of the AL championship series against Cleveland, following Josh Beckett in the rotation and moving ahead of Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Beckett, who pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener of the first round series against the Los Angeles Angels, will start Friday's opener against the Indians. Schilling will start Game 2 on Saturday, in part on the strength of his seven shutout innings that helped Boston complete the three-game sweep of the Angels.

Matsuzaka would be in line for Game 3 in Cleveland, followed by Tim Wakefield.

Wakefield was left off the roster for the first round because of a back problem. If the knuckleballer is unable to go, Beckett could pitch on three days of rest and be back on full rest for a potential Game 7.
