Asia-Pacific security summit opens at Ko Olina

The fifth annual Asia-Pacific Homeland Security Summit and Exposition opens today with remarks from Gov. Linda Lingle at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort located at Ko Olina.The three-day conference Oct. 9–11 will bring together government leaders, senior business executives, and security, technology and anti-terrorism experts to discuss solutions to public and private sector security threats in the Asia-Pacific region.
This year's summit will focus on the Asia-Pacific region's changing environment, the maritime balance of power in Asia-Pacific, keeping oceans safe and security technology.
The morning session is scheduled to include remarks by Maj. Gen. Robert Lee, state adjutant general; Admiral Timothy J. Keating, commander, U.S. Pacific Command; Dr. Rohan Gunaratna, head of the International Centre for Political Violence and
Terrorism Research (Singapore); and Ong Keng Yong, secretary-general, Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). The summit will feature speakers from Hawai'i, the Mainland, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia,Taiwan, India and the United Kingdom.
