Actors' Group stages August Wilson's 'Fences'

The Actors' Group stages the August Wilson drama "Fences" Oct. 26 through Nov. 25 at the Yellow Brick Studio, 623 Keawe St.

Derrick Brown will direct the drama, part of Wilson's majestic cycle of plays chronicling the black experience in the 20th century. "Fences" is about a former Negro Baseball League star who becomes an embittered garbage collector.

Jim Andrews plays the central figure, Troy Maxon, who builds a picket fence around his yard, in a story about actual and figurative boundaries in society.

The cast also includes Wendy Pearson, Savada Gilmore, Curtis Duncan, Chris Smith, David Payne and Safari Jones.

The show show bows at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with recurring performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets: $15 general, $13 seniors, $12 students and groups of 10 or more.
