Prosecutors today charged a Hawai'i Kai man with breaking into the McCully apartment of a woman yesterday morning and forcibly holding her against her will.

Kazuyuki Goto, 35, owner of the Hungry Lion restaurant in Nu'uanu, was charged at 12:15 p.m. with first-degree burglary and kidnapping. His bail was set at $100,000 pending an initial appearance tomorrow in District Court.

According to an affidavit filed in the court, Goto allegedly entered the 29-year-old woman's Kaiolu Street apartment at 3:30 a.m. by breaking the door and began to punch, kick and slap her.

He allegedly told her in Japanese, "I love you so much, how come you don't understand?" and "Don't make me mad," the document said.

The woman, who is general manager of a nightclub, told police she has known Goto as a customer for about 2 1/2 months.

The woman was able to escape by grabbing Goto's hair and kicking him in the face, the affidavit said.

Goto was arrested yesterday at his restaurant.
