Hawaii tax collections up 6.7 percent over a year ago

Associated Press

A big jump in corporate tax collections is filling state coffers three months into the fiscal year that began July 1.

Overall, the state Department of Taxation says it collected just under $369 million in September. Nearly half of that, or $167 million, came from the excise tax collected on nearly all purchases.

Individual income tax accounted for just under $154 million last month, a nearly 5 percent jump.

Corporate tax collections increased by nearly 20 percent to more than $20 million.

The transient accommodations tax or hotel room tax also showed growth, up more than 3 percent.
