Paul Ogata, an Island comedian-radio deejay who relocated to California two years ago to focus on his stand-up comedy, has won $25,000 and first place in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition.

"It feels really good to be the first Asian winner, in a time when Asians are largely marginalized by media and show business," said Ogata, who won the contest Saturday from a field of 30 finalists at the Cache Creek Casino, in Brooks, Calif. "It feels good to make a dent. Not for me, but for Asians in general."

Past winners include Dana Carvey of "Saturday Night Live" fame, Marsha Warfield of "Night Court" and Sinbad. Comedic stars such as Dane Cook, Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Mark Curry have reached the finals but not won. The lone Asian stand-up to place (at No. 4) was Henry Cho, in 1989.

"I'm not an activist or anything but I think it's important when Asian-Americans make an impact in the entertainment business in a non-William Hung ("American Idol") way," he said.

Ogata plans a return visit to the Islands in early December, he said.

BRITNEY MUST GET POLICE MUG SHOT

LOS ANGELES — A judge yesterday ordered that Britney Spears be booked at a police station in her hit-and-run case.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Rebecca Omens said the 25-year-old pop star must be fingerprinted and photographed before Oct. 25, when she is required to appear in court.

Spears was not present for yesterday's arraignment. She was represented by attorney Michael Flanagan, who said his client now "must go to any L.A. police station for fingerprints and mug shots."

"She will do that, but I don't know when," Flanagan told the Web site www.CelebTV.com.

Spears is charged with hit-and-run and driving without a valid license in connection with an Aug. 6 crash caught on film by paparazzi: It shows Spears steering her car into another vehicle as she tried to turn into a spot in a Studio City parking lot and, after assessing the damage to her own car, walking away.

KIEFER SUTHERLAND SENTENCED TO JAIL

LOS ANGELES — Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest yesterday to drunken driving and will serve a 48-day jail sentence for an incident that happened while the "24" star was on probation for a 2004 drunken-driving incident.

The show's star agreed to serve 30 days for driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, and 18 days for violating his probation in the 2004 case, according to court records. The latest charge stemmed from a traffic stop in Los Angeles last month

The actor was not in the courtroom and his attorney, Blair Berk, entered the plea.

"I'm very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I'm deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on '24' and at 20th Century Fox," Sutherland said in a statement.
