Local supporters will kick off Sen. John McCain's 2008 campaign at 10:45 a.m. today by gathering in front of the black granite tiles at the Vietnam Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol.

The meeting place is to honor McCain's service as a Prisoner of War during the Vietnam War. McCain was a fighter pilot who was shot down. He was beaten and dragged by North Vietnamese, who took him to the infamous Hanoi Hilton where he was a prisoner for 5.5 years.
