Woman seriously hurt in moped crash near Blaisdell Center

Advertiser Staff

Eastbound traffic approaching Blaisdell Center was slowed tonight for about an hour due to a traffic accident at the intersection of Ward Avenue and South King Street involving a moped and car.

The female adult moped operator suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said. The collision occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Police Lt. Norman Kau said the moped was traveling east when it was hit by a car headed makai. The moped may have entered the intersection on a red light.

Police reopened all lanes at 7:15 p.m. Three of five lanes on South King approaching the intersection had been closed for nearly an hour.

A section of Cooke Street leading to South King was also closed. Traffic was heavy on both South King and Kapi'olani Boulevard during that span.
