Hawaii football player reinstated at Weber State

OGDEN, Utah — Former Saint Louis School and current Weber State University quarterback Cameron Higgins has been reinstated after a two-day suspension and is expected to play Saturday at Northern Colorado.

Higgins had been suspended along with another Hawaii player, offensive lineman Alex Tupulua of Waianae High, and safety Marvin Walker of California after they were cited for shoplifting Monday at the sampus bookstore.

The citations were reviewed by the Ogden City Prosecutor's office, which determined there was insufficient evidence to file charges against Higgins.

"He was absolved of all charges," athletic director Jerry Graybeal told The Advertiser.

The other two remain on suspension.

"We take the conduct of our student-athletes very seriously at Weber State and hold them to a high standard," Graybeal said in a press release. "In fairness to Cameron, now that he has been cleared in this matter, he has been reinstated to the football team."

"It wasn't anything too severe, but it's something that you have to react to," Coach Ron McBride said.

McBride said quarterback Brendon Doyle, who has taken the majority of snaps in practice this week, will start the game in Greeley, Col. Higgins is expected to get some playing time as well.

Last week, Higgins, a redshirt freshman, completed 13 of 20 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns in a 26-7 victory over Sacramento State, the first win of the season for the Wildcats.

Higgins was named honorable mention to the All-State and Interscholastic League of Honolulu teams after the 2005 season. Tupulua was named second-team All-State and first-team in the Oahu Interscholastic Association West team last season.

Weber State is scheduled to play against Hawai'i Sept. 6 at Aloha Stadium next season.
