Two promoted at HPU

Dr. Martha Sykes has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President for Research and Grants Administration at Hawai'i Pacific University, the school said yesterday.

HPU also announced that Dr. Chris Winn has been promoted to the position of Associate Dean of Marine Science Programs within the College of Natural Science.

In his new position, Winn will support HPU Vice President for Research Dr. Alissa Arp with fund raising activities and the development of HPU's marine campus, Oceanic Institute. Together, they will develop the administrative infrastructure to support graduate and undergraduate education and research at Oceanic Institute. Winn will also advise recruiters, meet with prospective students and parents, and promote and represent the University and marine science programs to the community, mainland, and beyond. Additionally, he will be responsible for supervising all public relations areas for the undergraduate and graduate marine science programs.

Sykes will promote HPU's mission of increasing the number of faculty members and administrators receiving external funding. She will support HPU Vice President for Research Dr. Alissa Arp with active grant writing and proposal submission and coordination of the key services of pre- and post-award administration. She will promote grant opportunities and coordinate HPU's proposal development process. She will conduct research on potential funding sources, supervise collection and dissemination of information about grant eligibility requirements, restrictions, priorities, and deadlines, and oversee grant activity and record keeping of submitted external proposals.
