Fujikawa 9-over for day, 11-over overall in Vegas

Advertiser Staff

Tadd Fujikawa could not overcome a brutal two-hole stretch on his first nine holes and finished with a 9-over 80 today in the second round of the Frys.com Open in Las Vegas.

The 16-year-old Moanalua High School junior is in last place and expected to miss his fifth cut since turning pro this summer.

Fujikawa, who shot a 2-over-par 74 Thursday on the par-72 Summerlin course, began with three consecutive pars at the par-71 Canyon course.

But on the par-4 fourth, Fujikawa had a triple-bogey. He followed that with a double bogey, all but ending any shot at making the cut, which is projected to be at 5-under.

He followed that with bogeys on his seventh and eighth holes and made the turn at 7-over 42.

He parred the 10th, bogeyed the 11th and 12th and parred the 13th through 18th holes.

Former Honolulu resident and Punahou School alum Parker McLachlin had five birdies and five bogeys at the Summerlin course for a second-round 72 for a two-round total of 2-under 141.

McLachlin, who shot a 2-under 69 at the Canyons course Thursday, closed his round with four consecutive birdies.

Former Kaneohe resident and Castle High alum Dean Wilson shot a 2-under 70 today and is 2-under for the tournament.
