Boxing: Japan flyweight Kameda could lose license

Associated Press

TOKYO — Japan's boxing commission is considering punishment for Daiki Kameda, who violated regulations during his defeat to champion Daisuke Naito in Thursday's WBC flyweight match.

Kameda repeatedly grabbed Naito in Thursday's bout, lifting the champion up and throwing him to the canvas in a scene that resembled a wrestling match.

The Japan Boxing Commission is considering revoking the boxing licenses of both Daiki and his father and trainer Shiro Kameda.

Kameda was deducted three points during the bout, which Naito won on a unanimous decision to retain his title.

"I don't remember ever seeing someone being deducted three points," said JBC General Secretary Tsuyoshi Yasukochi. "There is a possibility there will be a severe penalty."

This isn't the first time the Kamedas have been involved in controversy.

In December of 2006, Koki Kameda, Daiki's elder brother, defeated Juan Landaeta of Venezuela in a WBA light flyweight bout.

Landaeta dominated the fight in Tokyo from the opening bell, but Kameda walked away with the title after judges scored the bout in his favor.
