CFB: Weber State keeps Northern Colorado winless

Associated Press

GREELEY, Colo. — Receiver Bryant Eteuati scored two touchdowns, and Weber State defeated Northern Colorado 23-0 today to ruin homecoming for the winless Bears.

Eteuati finished with 146 receiving yards for Weber State (2-4, 2-2 Big Sky Conference), which pulled away with a 16-point burst in the second quarter.

Eteuati's first touchdown was set up when he returned a punt 24 yards to Northern Colorado's 32. Brendon Doyle's pass to Eteuati on the very next play was good for a touchdown with 12:52 to go in the second quarter.

Northern Colorado (0-7, 0-3) couldn't move the ball on its next possession, and the Wildcats got the ball back at their own 41. Trevyn Smith rushed for 59 yards to give Weber State its second touchdown in just over a minute. Smith finished with 113 rushing yards.

Mike Snoy's 28-yard field goal with 56 seconds to go in the first half made it 16-0.

Cameron Higgins, a Saint Louis graduate who was suspended earlier this week, threw a 22-yard pass to Eteuati for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Doyle was 11-for-19 passing for 149 yards with an interception. Higgins connected on 7-of-8 passes for 72 yards.

Higgins was reinstated after a two-day suspension. Higgins had been suspended along with another Hawai'i player, offensive lineman Alex Tupulua of Wai'anae High, and safety Marvin Walker of California after they were cited for shoplifting Monday at the campus bookstore.

The citations were reviewed by the Ogden City (Utah) Prosecutor's office, which determined there was insufficient evidence to file charges against Higgins.

Weber State had 393 yards on offense, to 133 for the Bears.

Northern Colorado quarterback Dominic Breazeale was 11-for-26 passing for 92 yards with an interception. He was sacked four times.
