Advertiser Staff

Traffic is flowing again on Kapahulu Avenue in lower Kaimuki this morning after a gas line rupture and fire at the site of the new Safeway store construction.

Police and HFD received a call about the gas line break at 10:11 a.m.

A worker doing welding hit a gas line and flames and debris shot up through the street for a short time.

Police shut down Kapahulu between Olu and Winam.

The worker was taken to Straub Hospital at 10:15 with burns to one arm. His injuries were not serious, a police spokesman said.

The street was opened to traffic at 10:50 a.m.
