Preps: Davis, Pascual defend MIL air riflery titles

Maui High School's Dustin Davis and Baldwin's Lyndsay Pascual both defended their Maui Interscholastic League air riflery titles yesterday in Kahului.

Pascual shot a 497, 34 shots better than teammate and runner-up Ashley Farley. Maui's Janelle Corpuz took third place with a score of 460. Baldwin's Jaime Lyn Koyanagi was fourth place, also with a score of 460, helping the Bears take the girls team title with a score of 1,877.

Maui was second at 1,768 and King Kekaulike, which didn't field a team last year, followed at 1,442.

Davis shot a 497 to help the Sabers win the boys team title with a score of 1,867. Teammate Bryson Higa was second with a 481, and Baldwin's Eric Farley had a 470 to help the Bears finish second with a score of 1,795. Moloka'i was third with 1,702.

The St. Anthony boys team, in just their second year of competition, was fourth with a score of 1,603. King Kekaulike took fifth with a score of 1,479.

The MIL Championships moved indoors to the Maui High gym, whereas regular-season competition was held outdoors.

The state championships are scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. The top four shooters from the MIL championship teams and the next three high shooters qualified for the state tournament.
