A brushfire in Nanakuli, which burned about 60 acres in a large vacant lot today behind the Pacific Shopping Mall, was declared under control at 5:38 p.m., according to Honolulu Fire Department officials. The fire between Lualualei Naval Road and Helelua Street started at 3:40 p.m. and threatened some townhouses and a laundromat but caused no damage or injuries, HFD spokesman Capt. Robert Main said.
A drainage ditch provided a natural fire break for the townhouses, said Main.
