The state Department of Education and testing company The American Institutes for Research are expected to discuss recently discovered scanning errors in the 2007 Hawai'i State Assessment at a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m.DOE Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto and AIR Vice President Jon Cohen will be at the news conference to explain the scanning errors and their possible effects on testing results. They will also discuss the actions that will be taken to correct the errors.
The results are "not expected to significantly affect most schools' test score results," according to a media advisory from the DOE. Proficiency levels are likely to increase after corrections are made, the DOE said.
Also, the errors will not change any school's Adequate Yearly Progress status under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the DOE said.
