Deadline for Shichi-Go-San festival approaching

Advertiser Staff

The Jikoen Hongwanji Mission will celebrate Shichi-Go-San with assistance from the University Laboratory School's Kimono Project founder and chairwoman, Jean Sakihara.

Shichi-Go-San, which translates as "seven-five-three," is a festival observed Nov. 15 in Japan that recognizes 3- and 5-year-old boys as well as 3- and 7-year-old girls, and celebrates their continued health and prosperity.

The local event, to be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3, will offer kimono dressing for girls and haori/hakama dressing for 5-year-old boys at Jikoen Hongwanji Mission.

Donations of $25 will be sought.

Reservations: 845-3422 by Oct. 25.
