University Health Alliance and the Hawaii Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics have been given a special achievement award by the American Academy of Pediatrics for an innovative collaboration.

The two were cited for developing a tool that measures quality pediatric preventive health examinations. UHA worked with pediatricians to measure the use of preventive procedures during examinations.

UHA said data collected will help determine the effectiveness of preventive care and aid in identifying children at risk for serious conditions.

"Excellent preventive care can identify illnesses before they become life-threatening or chronic," said Dr. Max Botticelli, UHA Chief Executive Officer, in a press statement.

"The health of our children will improve with a system of recognized preventive car and health care becomes much more cost effective."
