Salvation Army to offer applications for holiday aid

Advertiser Staff

The Salvation Army will be accepting applications from families needing assistance to receive holiday gifts for their children under the age of 12 this coming holiday season.

Applications are obtained and accepted from Oct. 29 to Nov. 9 at the following three Salvation Army locations on O'ahu:

  • Kauluwela Mission Corps, 296 N. Vineyard Boulevard, Honolulu — phone, 521-6551;

  • Kaneohe Corps, 45-175 Waikalua Road, Kane'ohe — phone 235-1408;

  • Leeward Corps, 98-612 Moanalua Loop, 'Aiea — phone, 487-1636.

    Applicants must have photo identification for themselves and their children to verify age, verification of income, and proof of address.

    Families in need are helped through The Salvation Army's giving programs, more specifically through the Angel Tree Program. The program provides a way for people to help others in need by adopting "angel" tags that hang on Christmas trees located in shopping malls across the state. Each "angel" corresponds to an individual — from an infant to a 12-year-old, or a senior citizen — who has a special wish for Christmas. Eligible families will also receive food for a holiday meal.

    The Salvation Army is a charitable and service organization serving Hawai'i's people for more than a century. It provides social services to those in need without discrimination, according to a news release issued by the Salvation Army's Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division.
