Human-like robot stars in pedestrian-safety campaign

Advertiser Staff

The video "Steps to Safety with ASIMO," which features the human-like robot ASIMO, will be included in a pedestrian safety program for elementary school children launched by the state. ASIMO is manufactured by Honda.

The state Department of Transportation today launched the campaign to teach children to cross the street as part of the ongoing Walk Wise Hawaii campaign.

The transportation department is distributing the 15-minute instructional DVD to O'ahu schools. So far, 76 of O'ahu's 118 elementary schools, including 23 A-plus sites, have requested the DVD. Transportation officials estimate nearly 27,000 students could watch the informative pedestrian safety video.

If successful, transportation officials say the program could expand statewide next year.
