Schofield commander tapped to lead U.S. Army Pacific

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The Defense Department says President Bush has nominated the current commander of the Army's 25th Infantry Division to lead U.S. Army Pacific.

If confirmed by the Senate, Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon would lead Army units in Alaska, Hawai'i, Japan and Guam.

U.S. Army Pacific has headquarters at Fort Shafter next to Moanalua Gardens.

Lt. Gen. John M. Brown III is the current commander.

Mixon's 25th Infantry Division, based at Schofield Barracks, is in the process of returning to Hawai'i after spending more than a year in Iraq.
