Local musicians picked for 'From the Top' Nov. 16

Tom Vignieri, music director of the National Public Radio show "From the Top," announced the names of the pre-college-age musicians selected to appear on the program's live performance tapings on O'ahu and Maui next month.

To appear on the O'ahu program, Nov. 14, Hawai'i Theatre:

Asia Doike, 17, Honolulu, violin.

Irwin Jiang, 16, Honolulu, piano.

Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus. The chorus' elite Na Leo Kuho'okahi ensemble.

Ibanda Ruhumbika, 17, Athens, Ga., tuba.

Melissa Hooper, 18, Portland, Texas, oboe.

To appear on the Maui program, Nov. 16, Castle Theatre

Jacob DeForest, 17, Pa'ia, piano.

Kiyoe Wellington, 15, Kane'ohe, double bass.

Five Piano Extravaganza, Yulia Sharipova, 15, Honolulu; Tyler Ramos, 12, Waipahu; Andrew Ramos, 15, Waipahu; Alda Lam, 14, Honolulu; Laura Bleakley, 16, Honolulu; Maile Cha, 16, Honolulu; Rachel Stanton, 14, Honolulu; Annie Kwok, 12, Honolulu; T.J. Tario, 13, Honolulu.

Kaori Matsui, 16, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Joseph Lee, 13, Bedford, Texas.
