Preps: Baldwin boys clinch MIL bowling title

WAILUKU — The Baldwin High School boys bowling team clinched the Maui Interscholastic League championship yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Maui at the Maui Bowling Center.

The King Kekaulike girls, meanwhile, beat St. Anthony 3-0 and entered a first-place tie with Baldwin, which defeated Maui 2-1.

Corey Gushikuma bowled a 235 for the Baldwin boys (23-1) and Chaz Cabero added a 185. Roland Caniaveral had a 191 for the Sabers (15-9) and Randall Yamaoka had a 185.

Ashley Ventimiglia's 135 helped Na Ali'i girls improve to 16-8. Tiana Fernandez had a 125. The Trojans (3-21) got a 113 from Ching Man So and a 108 from Melissa Corson.

Chyane Balios had a 157 for the Baldwin girls (16-8) and Mika Uyeno had a 143. Victoria Baldovi-Wong had a 156 for Maui (13-11) and Tia Cabrera had a 150.

Baldwin faces St. Anthony in next Wednesday's season finale while King Kekaulike finishes the season against Maui.

Also, the King Kekaulike boys beat St. Anthony 2-1.

Robert Watanabe had a 211 for Na Ali'i (7-17) and Kip Asato added a 158. The Trojans (3-21) got a 177 from Ted Dodson and a 148 from Kameron Kaneshina.
