KA'ENA
Search on for missing boater

Advertiser Staff

The Coast Guard searched overnight for a missing boater whose disabled sailboat was found yesterday off Ka'ena Point.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Rod Hall identified the missing man as Charles D. Wilson, 56.

Wilson's 27-foot sailboat, the H2OIQ, was spotted by a Coast Guard helicopter 25 miles west of Ka'ena Point at 9:30 a.m., Hall said. The boat's sail was in the water.

A Coast Guard swimmer from the helicopter boarded the sailboat and found no one aboard. The Coast Guard recovered Wilson's wallet and cellphone.

It is believed Wilson left Ke'ehi Marina the night of Oct. 8 or early the next day, Hall said.
