Big Island man wanted for outstanding bench warrants

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in locating a 37-year-old Puna man wanted on two outstanding bench warrants.

John Pancoast Moorehouse III, also known as Jake, is described as 5 foot 6, 140 pounds and clean shaven with a shaved head.

Police have had several sightings and foot pursuits of Moorehouse in the Kehena area of lower Puna but he has evaded capture by running into the heavy brush. Police also have discovered a couple of campsites that Moorehouse used along the coastline in Kehena.

Police warn the public not to confront Moorehouse, as he is known to carry a machete and may be dangerous. Instead, they ask that anyone who knows his whereabouts — or the location on his current campsite — call the Police Department's nonemergency number at 808-935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 808-961-8300 in Hilo or 808-329-8181 in Kona. All CrimeStoppers information is kept confidential.
