College basketball: Nevada's Phillips out 4-6 weeks

Associated Press

RENO, Nev. — Nevada forward Richie Phillips will be out four to six weeks with a stress fracture in his lower left leg, Wolf Pack basketball coach Mark Fox said Friday.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound sophomore has been plagued with injuries since he came to Nevada from Seattle's Franklin High School and redshirted his first season in 2005-06.

Last season, he was slowed by offseason surgery on his right leg and then missed more time in January and February after suffering a torn finger tendon. He ended up playing in 11 games, averaging about 1 point and 1 rebound per outing.

"We are extremely disappointed for Richie," Fox said.

"He has made progress as a player but has faced a number of setbacks due to injuries in his short time at Nevada. He had two significant injuries last year and has now suffered another significant setback. We hope to get him back as soon as we can."

Nevada hosts Seattle in an exhibition Nov. 3 and opens the regular season Nov. 11 at Central Florida.
