HPU students' video to show at Minnesota film festival

A documentary produced by Hawai'i Pacific University students will screen at the Minnesota Historical Society Greatest Generation Moving Pictures Film Project Oct. 21.
"First Shot: The Secret Submarine Attack on Pearl Harbor" examines the story of American naval reservists who were doubted after sinking a Japanese midget attack submarine at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, an hour before the air attacks began. The film includes historical reenactments, archival footage and in-depth interviews with American and Japanese veterans.
"First Shot" premiered in December 2005 at the USS Arizona Memorial. It has won the 2006 Hawai'i Student Film Festival Platinum Award, the 2006 Association of Partners for Public Lands Media & Partnership Award, the 2006 Gold Aurora Award and the 2005 International Communicator Crystal Award.
