Volleyball: May-Treanor sweeps AVP Tour awards

Associated Press

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Misty May-Treanor swept the AVP Tour's postseason awards, winning her third straight MVP trophy and team of the year honors with partner Kerri Walsh.

May-Treanor also won best offensive and defensive player awards for the second straight season. She and Walsh won the team honor for the fifth consecutive year.

"I wouldnt be here if I didn't have a great partner in Kerri Walsh," May-Treanor said Thursday night. "She dishes up the nectar."

May-Treanor and Walsh won 13 of 15 tournaments this season, never finishing worse than third. They had a 76-3 match record and lost 14 games all season.

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers captured men's team of the year, having won 10 tournaments. Dalhausser was named MVP and best offensive player. Rogers shared best defensive player honors with Sean Rosenthal.

The most improved awards went to last year's rookies of the year — Brad Keenan and April Ross. This year's rookies of the year were Billy Strickland and Jenny Kropp.

The awards were voted on by AVP Tour players and presented at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
