Recovered remains of U.S. military to be honored

Advertiser Staff

A ceremony to honor U.S. military personnel who may be associated with recently recovered remains will take place today.

There will be flag-draped transfer cases representing recovered remains from three countries. One of the cases is associated with a Vietnam War loss in Cambodia. The remaining two cases are associated with missing Americans from World War II who were lost in France and Germany.

A joint honor guard will memorialize the long-awaited return home of these Americans at 9 a.m. on the tarmac in front of Hickam AFB base operations building.

Following the ceremony, the remains of these personnel will be transported to the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command where the forensic identification process begins. Once identifications are established, the names will be announced pending notification and approval of next-of-kin.
